What Benefits Do Star Alliance Members Get?

Star Alliance Members Benefits – Whether you choose to fly with the Star Alliance, Oneworld Alliance, or  SkyTeam Alliance, remaining loyal to your alliance will surely pay off.  From priority boarding, to free checked baggage, remaining loyal to your alliance is crucial to benefitting while traveling, especially when it comes to the Star Alliance.

The Star Alliance is an airline alliance network made up of 28 prominent airlines: Adria, Aegean, Air Canada, Air China, Air India, Air New Zealand, ANA, Asiana Airlines, Austrian, Avianca, Brussels Airlines, Croatia Airlines, Eqyptair, Ethiopian, EVA Air, Polish Airlines, Lufthansa, South American Airways, Scandinavian Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Swiss, TAP Air Portugal, Thai, Turkish Airlines, and United.

When remaining loyal to these airlines, travelers will obtain a tier status with the Star Alliance: silver status or gold status.

According to United, “With Star Alliance Gold or Silver status, Premier members enjoy worldwide recognition and travel benefits on all Star Alliance member airlines and earn Premier qualifying miles (PQM) and Premier qualifying segments (PQS) in the MileagePlus program when traveling to more than 1,100 destinations. ”

However, those are not the only benefits to flying within your alliance.

Star Alliance Silver Status

Star Alliance member (Silver Membership) is the lower of the two tier status options, but still provides travelers with  benefits when flying within the Star Alliance network.

Members with Silver Status will receive priority reservations waitlisting when there aren’t any seats left on their preferred flight. Alongside this, Silver members will get priority airport standby. Essentially, this benefit would put Silver members ahead of travelers with no Star Alliance status when put on a waitlist.

Star Alliance Gold Status

Star Alliance Gold is the higher of the two tiers. While Gold members also benefit from priority airport standby and priority reservations waitlisting, they see many more benefits in comparison to Silver members.

According to United, Star Alliance members (Gold Membership) have priority airport check-in, extra baggage allowance (an additional 44 pounds or one additional piece of baggage), Gold Track expedited security and immigration lanes, airport lounge access, priority boarding, and priority baggage handling.

Overall, this means those who remain loyal to their alliance network will benefit in every stage of traveling. From free checked baggage, to being one of the first to board airplanes, Star Alliance Gold members see their loyalty being rewarded.
