United Airlines is raising their fees for checked bags from $25 to $30 and a second bag will cost you from $35 to $40 for tickets that were issued after Friday. These fees are associated with flights that cover the Caribbean, and North and Central America.
JetBlue raised their fees earlier this week to $30 for the first checked bag and $40 for the second checked bag. Currently Southwest is the only major US airline that doesn’t add a fee for your first checked bag. Delta and American still charge $25 for your first piece of checked luggage.
To avoid these fees you can sign up for the All New United Explorer card and the primary cardmember and one travel companion on the same reservation are eligible to receive their first checked bag for free. If you are a premier member with United you receive a baggage allowance depending on your status.
