PlusPoints Has Officially Launched With United

Written by Ashley Ferraro

Back in September, we learned all about United MileagePlus’s new upgrade system, PlusPoints. Time flies and December 4th has finally rolled around, meaning the new system is officially being implemented!

United Airlines has sent out an important message regarding the change, and how it will immediately affect customers:

It’s almost time to start using PlusPoints, the flexible, innovative upgrade benefit you learned about this fall. On December 4, 2019, each Regional Premier Upgrade in your account will convert to 20 PlusPoints, and each Global Premier Upgrade will convert to 40 PlusPoints.

As we make this switch, some parts of our upgrade system will be briefly unavailable, so we recommend planning ahead and managing your upgrades before or after the transition period.

From December 3, 10 p.m. CT, to December 4, 6 a.m. CT, you won’t be able to make a new Regional or Global Premier Upgrade request.

If you change a reservation with an existing upgrade or upgrade request during this timeframe, it may take longer for your upgrade to be refunded. This includes changing flights, departure dates or travelers on the reservation.

Thank you for your patience as we roll out this new benefit. We’re excited for you to start using PlusPoints!
