Let’s explore the new benefits of the United Presidential Plus Credit Card for 2020 and how your card can help you achieve up to Premier 1K status for 2021.
First, MileagePlus is removing Premier Qualifying Miles (PQM) as a way to earn Premier status. The new United MileagePlus Premier status will be based on a combination of Premier Qualifying Flights (PQF) and Premier Qualifying Points (PQP).
What is a Premier Qualifying Point (PQP)?
A PQP is equal to 1 point for every $1 USD paid for the following categories: Base fare and carrier-imposed surcharges on flights operated by United and United Express, Economy Plus purchases, Preferred Seating purchases, paid premium cabin seating offers on United, and co-pay fees for MileagePlus Upgrade Awards.
What is s Premier Qualifying Flight (PQF)?
A Premier Qualifying Flight will be equal to 1 for each eligible flight segment traveled when traveling on United, United Express, Star Alliance partners, and select Mileage Plus partners (there are a few exceptions).
Through December 31, 2019, Presidential Plus cardholders will continue to earn 1,000 Flex PQM (FPQM) per $5000 spent. You can use any existing FPQM towards 2020 Premier status through March 31, 2020.
On April 1, 2020 ay residual FPQM balances can also be used as Flex PQP (FPQP) at a ration of 5:1.
For example, a balance of 10,000 FPQM would become 2,000 FPQP. Please note that FPQM,FPQP will be subject to expiring in 39 months and like today, can be used toward Silver, Gold and Platinum Status.
United will offer its Presidential Plus cardmembers ways to earn PQP or Premier Status by using their card. In the 2020 calendar yer, United Presidential Plus Cardmembers will earn 500 PQP for every $12,000 spent, up to 10,000 PQP. PQP earned on or after January 1, 2020 will be applicable to Premier status levels up to and including 1K (previously you could only go up to Platinum Status). For example, if you spend $24,000 between January 1 and December 31, 2020 you will earn 1,000 PQP.
