Let’s Explore The World Of Hyatt Loyalty Program

Written by Ashley Ferraro

World of Hyatt is an exciting rewards program promising benefits to all members, even those at the entry-level status. Explore the entire world with Hyatt, as the program includes over 900 global properties. With benefits like exclusive member rates, a generous points system, and access to private lounges, it only gets better as your elite status increases. Travelers love staying loyal to Hyatt due to the unique advantages of their rewards program. Let’s take a closer look at World of Hyatt so you can determine if it’s right for you.

What are the World of Hyatt tiers?

There are three elite status levels within the World of Hyatt program—Discoverist, Explorist, and Globalist. As soon as you join (it’s free!), you’re simply a general member. You’ll be eligible to save 10% with the Member Rate at participating hotels, earn points, enjoy exclusive offers, and even earn a free night after staying at 5 different Hyatt brands. So, even if you’re not looking to continue with the program, you can still join to reap some of the immediate benefits.

As a Discoverist, you’ll enjoy all that in addition to complimentary premium Internet in your room, 2 p.m. late checkout when available, daily water bottle restocking, plus 10% Bonus Points on qualifying purchases. This means you’ll be on track to earn free nights much faster than usual. To reach this level, you’ll need 10 Qualifying Nights or 25,000 Base Points. As we move into the Explorist status, those Bonus Points will be increased to 20% and guests will be able to access upgraded rooms when available. The requirements are 30 Qualifying Nights or 50,000 Base Points.

The ultimate achievement of the Globalist level will bring you to earning 30% Bonus Points on qualifying purchases, room upgrades, Club lounge access which includes breakfast, and a 4 p.m. late checkout when available. The benefits are superior, but it’ll take some time to get there. Members must earn 100,000 Base Points or 60 Qualifying Nights.

As you can see, in order to earn elite status you’ll either need to hit a minimum on Qualifying Nights or Base Points. Different from many other programs, Hyatt does not count stays toward status. This criteria must be met each calendar year in order to qualify for the benefits.

Base Points vs. Bonus Points

Base Points are earned by spending money on qualifying purchases. You can begin collecting these as a general Member, there’s no elite status required to earn. Accumulate base points through the following methods:

  • Earn 5 Base Points per $1 spent on qualifying stays, dining, spa experiences, and more at Hyatt hotels and resorts.
  • Earn 5 Base Points per $1 spent on qualifying stays, dining, spa experiences, and more at M life Rewards destinations.
  • Earn 5 Base Points per $1 spent on qualifying room rates at SLH hotels.
  • Earn 10 Base Points for every $1 spent on FIND experiences, Exhale spa therapies and fitness classes at participating locations, and with qualifying Exhale On Demand subscriptions.

Using Base Points is even more exciting than earning them! They can be put towards free nights at Hyatt hotels and resorts or participating SLH hotels and M life Rewards destinations, unique experiences, airline miles, car rental awards, and more. You’re also able to share your points with other World of Hyatt members. With free nights starting at just 5,000 points, it’s not long before your earnings pay off!

You’ll begin earning Bonus Points when you reach elite status with World of Hyatt. As discussed previously, a Discoverist earns a 10% bonus, an Explorist earn a 20% bonus, and a Globalist earns a massive 30% bonus—that’s 1.5 extra points per $1 spent. These Bonus Points act as an incentive to move up through the elite tiers, who doesn’t want to earn more while they spend?

It’s crucial to remain engaged in the program since all World of Hyatt points expire after 24 months of inactivity. But since you have a two year window, staying active shouldn’t be a challenge.

Earn More Points With Credit Cards

Like most other rewards programs, World of Hyatt offers a cobranded credit card. Currently, the World of Hyatt Chase credit card is taking new applicants. The benefits of the card include:

  • Automatic elite status with World of Hyatt
  • 1 free night each year, with an additional free night if you spend $15,000 during your cardmember anniversary year
  • Contactless pay technology for quick, easy and secure checkout

Using the World of Hyatt Chase credit card will help you earn even more Bonus Points, too. You’ll earn 9 total points for every $1 spent on Hyatt stays (4 Bonus Points plus the original 5 Base Points). You’ll earn 2 Bonus Points per $1 spent on ground transportation, dining, flying and fitness club/gym memberships. Of course, you’ll get 1 Bonus Point for every $1 spent on the remainder of your purchases.

Signing up now can even earn you up to 50,000 Bonus Points. You’ll get half after spending $3,000 within the first 3 months, and the rest after spending $6,000 within the first 6 months from account opening.

World of Hyatt Partnerships

Hyatt has solidified a couple of notable partnerships that benefits its members. For starters, their relationship with Small Luxury Hotels of the World connects members to a collection of independent boutique hotels around the globe. With over 250 locations worldwide, your options are limitless… and so are your rewards!

A partnership with Lindblad Expeditions will reward you for exploring some of the world’s most remote destinations. Wildlife adventures overseas have not just become more accessible, but more rewarding. Your benefits will come in the form of 5 Base Points per $1 spend with either of these partners.
