Although the travel industry is quite different from what we are accustomed to, each day we are learning to adapt to the circumstances. Quarantine has actually allowed us to become more creative with the resources we do have.
We may not be going far, but we’re still having unforgettable experiences right in our backyards! These trying times have taught us how to make the most of what’s in front of us. By changing our lifestyles while still holding true to our love for adventure, quarantine has given us some great memories.
Making the most of your quarantine can be as simple as getting some fresh air or changing up your at-home routine. It’s all about switching things up. By introducing fun ideas like spontaneous movie nights, backyard dinners, and neighborhood escapades, you’ll start to feel like you’re on vacation!
Outdoor Movie Night
It’s summer, going on fall! Why not enjoy as much time outside as possible? Set up a projector or TV outside to watch your favorite movie on your streaming platform of choice. We love Hulu! Set up pillows, blankets, lights, and anything to make it fun. If you really want to get fancy, pour a glass of wine and serve dinner outside, too. These fun pillows and lanterns from Pottery Barn work perfectly to set the mood! Plus, a cute and comfortable dress from Revolve. Pets are invited too, of course.
Watch A Sunrise Or Sunset On The Beach
If you’re lucky enough to live on the coast, and depending which coast that is, why not observe one of nature’s most beautiful treasures? We often take the sunrise/sunset for granted, but it’s truly a magnificent sight to see every time. Each one brings different colors and clouds, so there’s always something new to look forward to! Even if you aren’t on the water, the sunrise/sunset can be observed from anywhere outdoors.
Dinner On The Beach
Just because you’re avoiding restaurants due to quarantine, that doesn’t mean you can’t have the ambiance. Why not take your meal outdoors? Setting up your lunch or dinner on the beach makes for a picnic straight out of a fairytale. Did someone say charcuterie board? You can bring just a blanket or go all out with your setup! We purchased the lanterns pictured from Pottery Barn.
Explore Your Hometown
We’re located in Palm Beach and sometimes forget how many gems are in our own backyard! How many of you live in New York and have never been to the Statue of Liberty or Empire State Building? What about all of the parks nearby you haven’t visited?
Get Out On The Water
If being indoors makes you feel trapped, you’re not alone. Everyone feels better when they get outside and get some fresh air and sunshine. The water is truly the best place to unwind and feel free again. If you live near a lake or on the coast, rent a boat or a Jet Ski to make the most of your quarantine! You’ll totally feel like you’re on vacation.
Bike Ride
If quarantine has done anything, it’s turned half of your town into bike riders. It may have been years since you got on your bike, but there’s no better time than now to get back on. Riding your bike is therapeutic, great exercise, and pretty entertaining! Your bike can allow you to explore areas of your town you might not have seen before. Plus, if you’re avoiding the gym, biking is an awesome way to get moving.
Breakfast In Bed
Breakfast in bed sounds like a fantasy, but with a little preparation anyone can make it happen! Have food delivered, or wake up early to cook it yourself. Don’t forget the champagne and orange juice, the perfect spot for a mimosa is in bed! Enjoy your meal on a convenient platter like this one. You deserve to be pampered.
Movie Night
There’s nothing like a good old fashioned movie night. The possibilities are endless, so get creative! Order or make a pizza, heat up popcorn, build a pillow fort, indulge in a gallon of ice cream… you get the idea. Get out of your bed and watch a movie on the couch for a change of scenery. Take full advantage of your favorite streaming service. We like Hulu for movies!
Have A Picnic
Whether it’s the beach, a lakefront, or a park, having a picnic will give your quarantine some new life. Have you ever actually had a real picnic? We see them in photos and in movies, but not so much in our own lives. There’s no rules to what kind of picnic you can have. Have a breakfast picnic with bagels and orange juice, or a dinner picnic with wine and cheese. A decoration as simple as a waterproof checkered blanket makes for a great photo op, too.
Backyard Dinner
We are all guilty of not spending enough time in our backyards. With so much free time on our hands, setting up dinner in the backyard is a great way to spend your evenings. Dust off your folding table and cover it with an elegant table cloth to set the mood. Put up some lights or lanterns—whatever it takes to set the mood. Eating in your own backyard makes the easiest picnic ever!
Go Swimming
If you have a pool in your backyard, we shouldn’t have to remind you of this one! Of course it looks beautiful, but jumping in it feels even better. Maybe it’s time to invest in a new pool float to spice things up. How about an avocado, a unicorn, a mermaid tail, or a simple tube? Don’t forget the cocktail!
S’mores
Making s’mores by the fire brings us back to our childhoods. However, it’s not a joy that we are ready to give up as adults! Use your fire pit, portable charcoal grill, stove top, or whatever resources you can find. Having s’mores on the beach is the ultimate luxury, but you could also do it in your backyard or kitchen. Don’t forget to set the mood before you indulge in this delicacy!
