The American Express Platinum Card Benefits

Lets explore the American Express Platinum Card, a credit card that American Express calls the “passport to effortless travel.”( Point 4: credit cards)

At every stage in your travel experience, from getting an Uber to the airport to relaxing in the Centurion Lounge** to arriving at your hotel, you only need one card to benefit and earn points. Upon receiving the card, members will receive a $15 per month credit for Uber rides within the United States, 2000 points when booking a flight over $400, and $40 dinner. This makes your travel easy and affordable. Needless to say, we think American Express was right when they used the word ‘effortless.”

Members will earn 60,000 Membership Rewards Points after spending $5,000 in purchases in the first three months of being a cardholder an will also receive points for flights and hotel bookings. Members will earn 5x points on flights, 5x points in prepaid hotels booked within American Express and 1x points for each dollar spent of eligible purchases.

Travel Benefits:
Cardholders will be able to check bags for free or enjoy a complimentary in-flight meal when traveling.

After selecting one qualifying airline, travelers will “receive up to $200 per calendar year in statement credits when incidental fees are charged by the airline to your Platinum Card account.” Qualifying airlines can be found below:

-Alaska Airlines
-American Airlines
-Delta Airlines
-Frontier Airlines
-Hawaiian Airlines
-JetBlue Airways
-Spirit Airlines
-Southwest Airlines
-United Airlines

With the Boingo American Express Preferred Plan, card members can enjoy complimentary unlimited Wi-Fi access on up to four devices. There are more than one million hotspots worldwide.

Card holders will also have access to a growing number of airport lounges, courtesy of the American Express Global Lounge Collection. Card members will have access to more than 1,100 lounges across 120 countries, including the International American Express lounges and the Centurion Lounge network.*

Foreign travel benefits include Fee Credit for Global Entry or TSA Pre-check, no foreign transaction fees and access to the Premium Global Assist Hotline.

Premium Global Assist Hotline is a 24 hour service for medical, legal, and financial needs. It can direct you to English-Speaking medical and/or legal professionals in the event of an emergency away from home, and can even arrange a transfer to other medical facilities. The hotline will also help with emergency hotel check-ins, cash wires, missing luggage, prescription replacements, and much more.

Card members will get a $100 hotel credit on qualifying charges, alongside 5X Membership Rewards points when making a prepaid booking with The Hotel Collection.

Hotel benefits will include Platinum Travel Services, a team of travel counselors which will make planning trips easier an will help make traveling even more memorable.

Lastly, American Express will provide card members with Hilton Honors Gold Status, which allows travelers to “enjoy benefits at hotels and resorts within the Hilton Portfolio and earn reward stays faster with Honors Bonus Points.”

American Express will offer Purchase Protection, a service that will protect eligible purchases with a Platinum Card against accidental damages and theft. Alongside this, Purchase Protection will “sometimes provide lost coverage for certain Card products for up to 120 days” (or 90 days in New York, Indiana, Guam, Puerto Rico, an the Northern Mariana Islands).

If you want to return eligible item within 60 days from the date of purchase and a merchant will not take it back, American Express may refund the price of the item without shipping and handling fees. Return Protection allows for items worth up to $300 and up to a maximum of $1000 per year. And as always, if there is a fraudulent or incorrect charge on your Platinum Card, American Express will help resolve the issue.

Overall, this means there are a lot of benefits for Pointsters, and a lot to consider.
