Among countless other things, COVID-19 has posed challenges for earning and using airline miles with our favorite loyalty programs, like MileagePlus. These days, many of us can agree that our grocery spending has gone up, or at least remained consistent. In order to stay relevant, United Airlines is offering a special promotion for their Explorer card from Chase.
For a limited time only, all grocery store purchases will reward you 3x the miles per dollar. This announcement follows multiple other new programs in effort to keep cardholders on their toes. For example, we’re a fan of the button, a new feature that allows cardholders to earn extra miles by shopping online.
Normally, United’s co-branded credit card offers double the miles on United purchases, hotel stays, and restaurant dining. However, spending in all three of those categories have pretty much been suspended for the time being. Except for the random quarantine items from Amazon we keep buying, a bulk of our spending has been on groceries. Why not earn the miles for something we’re already doing (and probably doing in excess)?
Although options for redeeming miles have become limited, they still exist. For example, United MileagePlus cardholders can spend miles on their annual fee. Or, they can of course save those miles for future use, since they never expire.
In order to redeem this offer, all you have to do is spend. There are no additional steps required. Simply shop at your favorite grocery store or even get your groceries delivered and pay with your MileagePlus card in order to earn the extra miles. United and Chase making it easy for cardmembers stay in touch with their benefits.
This offer will run from May 1 through June 30, 2020. So, it’s not going to be around forever. There is also a $1,500 limit on the amount you can spend per calendar month in order to get the extra miles. It sounds like a lot, but you’d be surprised to see how much your grocery bills add up to!
