In the midst of the COVID-19 aka Coronavirus outbreak, airlines are adjusting fees in order to accommodate to concerned travelers. Among others, American Airlines has announced exactly how they plan to keep their customers safe and satisfied.
Starting now, anyone who purchases a flight through March 16th for travel dates between March 1st, 2020 and January 26th, 2021 is eligible for a change fee waiver. Customers may change their flight one time without having to pay any associated fees. That is, as long as the change is made at least 14 days prior to the outbound travel date.
American Airlines is implementing this policy in hopes of giving passengers peace of mind when arranging travel during this uneasy time. So, if you book with the airline through the next two weeks, you won’t have to worry about being charged for changing our upcoming flight.
The new travel must be booked within one year of the original ticket issue date. It’s important to note that any difference in the flight fare will apply. The policy excludes bookings through AAdvantage award tickets.
Any customer who is eligible to change their flight under the new policy and wishes to do so should contact American Airlines Reservations. If you’d like to keep up with further policy changes, the airline regularly updates their travel alerts page.
Through years of budding loyalties between customers and airlines, it’s refreshing to see options like this becoming available. Hopefully, all major airlines will soon adopt a similar policy.
